My story

Final words - The Day After The Day Before

April 13th has been and gone - what will we do with ourselves? We both got round but in different ways.  Simon started off with Mr Tickle and the 12ft Iron Man on either side of him (leaving them fairly quickly!) - and Jon a couple of miles away in Blackheath.  The rain came, the sleet, the hail and the sun....and the crowds and the noise.  There were plenty of ups and downs for both of us - but the bottom line was we made it to the Mall, and crossed the famous line - Simon in 4:24, Jon in 4:47.  The wall smashed Jon up at Mile 14 - which has prevented him walking still properly 3 days later.  Simon missed his time because of Mr Tickle.  It felt like we were part of something massive, because we were.  And we've applied for 2009.  Thanks to you all - it's been a journey!

Update 17 March - thanks to everyone for helping us smash through the £1800 fundraising target.  I then raised it to £2000, and we went through that, so if you're here thinking about sponsoring us, then please help us climb even higher.  As far as training goes, we've now both completed 16mile and 18mile traning runs.  Yesterday we both ran the Hastings Half Marathon and clocked new personal bests for the distance (Jon 1:42, Simon 1:48).  4 weeks to the big one!

*********************************************

It seemed like such a good idea at the time to enter the London Marathon but Simon ended up without a place through the ballot, and was entered onto a waiting list for the Samaritans Marathon team.  At the end of February, with just a few weeks to go, Simon got the call he was in - adrenaline, panic and a dose of hysterics about how they could raise the £1800 commitment to Samaritans.

And that's where our friends, family, work colleagues, friends of friends, friends of family, Facebook friends and anyone else who has ever encountered us come in - by lending us your support and credit card details to get us round the 26.2 miles and help us support Samaritans work.   For those of you interested in the choice of Samaritans, Simon has been working/volunteering as a Sam for around 6 months now so knows first hand how welcome the money will be as they receive no funding from the government, local authorities or NHS etc.  It costs Samaritans around 50p every time they answer the phone.....

So, whatever you can, please support us - who knows where this target could end up??

Many many thanks

Simon & Jon
