Every year in the UK alone, over 2500 people are diagnosed with Mesothelioma. Almost all cases are attributable to asbestos exposure. It remains an incurable condition and many die within a year of diagnosis.

My friends and colleagues from the lung cancer (and mesothelioma) community know that improving support for those affected by this disease is a passion of mine. Most of my friends from the North East probably don't know of my work and enthusiasm in this field... They will however most likely know someone who has died or lost someone to this terrible form of cancer.

Although fond of a jog, I've not previously ran beyond 13 miles which I've always considered my absolute limit. All of you who pass me (and shout words of encouragement/abuse) on the streets of North Leeds know I run with a limp and a grimace rather than with a spring in my step and a smile on my face. This is no walk in the park for me and my training has been hampered over the past couple of months due to injury and illness... I'm back on it now though!
