My story
Running a marathon through familiar London streets has been something of a lifelong ambition. To be able to run for such a worthwhile local charity makes it all the more special so thank you for visiting my fundraising page. SAFE is a faith based charity here in Southampton working with the socially excluded helping them gain confidence, to make choices and overcome barriers, and to progress onto social inclusion and learning. Working part-time as a local GP in the city having witnessed first hand the close relationship between long term unemployment and ill health, I am delighted to have this opportunity to bring the work of SAFE to your attention and to invite your sponsorship. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Southampton Action For Employment will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

SAFE has been helping people progress into work and learning for over 10 years. The programme boasts a 75% progression rate into further learning or employment - an incredible achievement when you take into account the fact that SAFE are working with the hardest to reach, most excluded people - most of which suffer from chronic low self esteem, isolation and lack of motivation. The three main focuses of the programme are: - Reaching the hardest to reach - Personal progression - into work, learning or meeting personal goals - Building community - linking isolated people into the community
