Story
I will start at 1'800m & climb to 5'896m, through tropical rainforest & moorland to a summit of glaciers and permanent ice cap. It is a demanding trek that will take me to extreme altitude (only 50% oxygen) at the top of the highest free standing mountain in the world.
This will be the most challenging thing i have ever done. There will be lots of steep climbs & i will also have to contend with the effects of being at high altitude. But i will be spurred on through every step knowing that the money i raise will help people who are facing the far greater challenge of living with cancer.
In the UK one in three people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime & over a million people are currently living with cancer today.
Finally, this is no holiday. Of course i will have an amazing experience. But i will have to put in many months of training. I will be running & walking for up to twenty hours a week every week. I will also be training for the Great North Run again plus up to two other charity runs. I will have to make a lot of sacrifices. All i ask of you, my friends & family, is that you put your hands deep in your pockets & sponsor me for this, the greatest thing i will do in my life (apart from marrying Ceri of course. She made me write that).
Thank you so much.
Simon
