A TRIBUTE TO JOHN BRETHERTON
I'm running this years Edinburgh Marathon to help raise money for The Meningitis Trust because of the recent and untimely death of one of my work colleagues and occasional running partners, John Bretherton, who died very suddenly from bacterial Meningitis on 17 December 2008.
John was a very experienced and capable runner who was well known for being very supportive and unselfish in his encouragement of colleagues wanting to improve their running. He regularly held informal lunchtime running sessions with a number of the runners from Scottish Water's offices in Livingston and Glasgow.
On Sunday 31 May, I will run the gruelling 26.2 mile route through the famous streets of Edinburgh as a tribute to John and to help raise money to fight meningitis, a life threatening disease that affects thousands of people a year.
I will be training hard over the next four months and in return I'm asking for some support every step of the way! Running 26.2 miles is a tough challenge in anyone's book but I have made it my goal and I am going to give it everything I've got. With great backing from friends, family and work colleagues I know I can do it and I'm determined to help The Meningitis Trust in their fight against this devastating disease.
