BUPA Great North Run 2006 · 1 October 2006 ·
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I took part in the 26th BUPA Great North Run on Sunday 1st October 2006, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. I completed the course in 2 hours, 53 minutes and 17 seconds. The 13.1 miles of the Great North Run proved to be a huge challenge for me. However, that's not as big as the challenge that is faced by cancer sufferers each and every day. Please help Macmillan Cancer Support today and pledge your support.
My Granda died in January 2004, having fought against a cancerous brain tumour for 18 months. Macmillan Cancer Relief provided a nurse each morning and each night to help get Granda up and about in the morning and to help get him to bed at night. This took a huge weight off the shoulders of my Granny and the rest of my family. This service is offered free-of-charge and Macmillan does not receive any government help. I'm doing the Great North Run so that the excellent work of Macmillan Cancer Relief can continue.
Currently one million people in the UK are living with cancer. If current trends continue, five million more of us will be told we have the disease between now and 2020. Macmillan Cancer Support is working towards the day when everyone in the UK has equal and ready access to the best information, treatment and care for cancer. Right from the beginning, Macmillan helps to provide expert care, practical and emotional support that makes a real difference for people living with cancer. The money you donate will help fund specialist Macmillan nurses and doctors who deliver the best in cancer care; build vitally needed treatment centres; give financial help to those who need it most; and provide a range of cancer information both locally and nationally. All of Macmillan's services are free, and are funded entirely through the generosity of their supporters. 100% of what you donate, no matter how small, will go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support to help deliver these services.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Please, please, please tick the Gift Aid box if you are a UK taxpayer.
Many thanks for your support. It is greatly appreciated.
