Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

Stop press - I've done it (phew) - in 8 hours 41 mins (a PB!) - thanks to Margaret , John, Bruce and Sarah, the Jardines and Longs (Sr) for support 'on course' - and to my cycling partner, coach (and biographer....) - Nick Brownlee!

WHAT HAVE I DONE?

THE CUMBERLAND CHALLENGE (on Sunday 31st August 2008) - This is a 105 mile cyclo- sportive which starts in Brampton and traces a figure of eight around the North Pennines taking in the climb of Hartside before heading back to Brampton and then alongside Hadrian's Wall and onwards into Scotland before heading back to Brampton. It is a challenging 105 mile ride with 2900m of climbing  have a look at www.thecumberlandchallenge.co.uk  (that's Carlisle to Manchester and 4 times up Scafell!)

It generally 'pours down' for the Cumberland Challenge - and this year was no exception!

SO WHY I DIDN'T WANT TO DO IT !

(1) I weigh too much

(2) I drink too much

(3) I smoke too much (passively - please speak to my golf mates!)

(4) I am unfit

(5) It's a very very long way

(6) I did it last year and it was hell!

AND WHY I DID IT

(1) I weigh too much  - and still do

(2) I drink too much  - and still do

(3) I smoke too much (passively - please speak to my golf mates!)  -they still do and  therefore so do I

(4) I am unfit  - but not as unfit as I thought

(5) It is a very long way

(6) it wasnt quite as hellish this year!

(7)  I Feel great now!

(8) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY TO RAISE £5000 FOR COMMUNITY ACTION NEPAL (CAN) - done that too!

(many of you will know that the Long Family visited Nepal last Christmas, we met so many fantastic people, and we saw how the projects that CAN run helped the Nepali hill people to help themselves - I came back determined to do something to raise some money) - have a look at www.canepal.org.uk

CAN is headed up by mountaineers Doug Scott and Chris Bonnington, what CAN does is needed and sustainable, your donation will not be eaten up in overheads - and a pound goes a very long way in Nepal!  - £5000 WILL PROVIDE  3 NURSES IN CAN HEALTH POSTS FOR A WHOLE YEAR!

AND A PROMISE......

I know we all get lots of requests like this, and quite frankly they are a pain in the*^"* (there's always another one around the corner!) - well if you sponsor me I promise that I wont badger you for any more sponsorship until 2012 (a big birthday  for me and an Olympic year!) SO THIS IS REALLY 5 YEAR'S SPONSORSHIP IN 1 !!! - please be generous.......

THEREFORE.....

It would be really great if you are able to sponsor me!

MANY MANY MANY THANKS!

Simon

(Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Community Action Nepal will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.)
