Story

14/04/08:
I'VE DONE IT!!!

and I did it in within my target time (under 10min miles) at 4hours 19 minutes. I just can't believe I've done it - 10 months of training to build me up to this, and you just never think it will happen for one reason or another. But it has, and it is the most incredibly worthwhile feeling! I'm not [too] ashamed to admit that I nearly cried afterwards.

The day itself was just so inspirational! So many runners either injured and carrying on, dressed in ridiculous outfits, 90 years old and keeping up, or blind and being guided by others. And the atmosphere was intense - everyone shouting your name, handing out food and drink, houses decorated, either local bands, or constant music pounding through speakers, which at one point caused about 1000runners along the track to dance along in unison to a rendition of YMCA!

Thank you to everyone who came along to watch, and supportive texts along the way too!

I also hope you will not begrudge me another opportunity to mention that running the marathon was for two reasons. Yes, it's been a challenge for me, but it is also an opportunity to raise a staggering amount of money for the international children's charity EveryChild. So far I'm on £960, but there's lots more to go before reaching my target, and plenty of time yet [60 days]. So please please please, if you haven't yet given, do consider making a donation for people that have had it far far tougher all their lives than I merely had today.

Thank you,
x

Hello!
Thanks for visiting my site. You're now just one step away from offering your support to the charity I am running for.

On April 13th, I will be running the London Marathon. This comes after being inspired by the race last year, and training from scratch, from June.

Besides the personal achievement, what is really driving me to achieve this is the charity, EveryChild. They are doing amazing work with kids in countries that had a huge emotional impact on me when I was travelling - Cambodia, Uganda, India etc. As such, my target is a whopping £1500 which I am determined to raise, but only through your support.

Please, please dig deep and sponsor me online today. You have til some time after the marathon itself to do so. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: EveryChild will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

From myself and the charity EveryChild, thank you so much! I will keep you posted on my progress, so please do return to this site [and my facebook group too.]

Love, and best wishes,
Simon Wadsworth

*****UPDATE*****

20/03/08: I've been looking forward to today's run for ages. It was the big TWO-ZERO run, the longest I'll do before the marathon itself. 20miles from Kingston, following the river round through Kew, Hammersmith, Putney, Chelsea and over to Westminster and the London Eye. I was looking at the weather last night and it said rain, rain, rain, but praise thee the gods, because it was lovely weather the whole run. The best thing is I was 10minutes within my target, averaging 9.5min/mile. So very very chuffed.

I had two energy bars in my back pocket, two lucozade bottles, and 6 lucozade tablets celotaped to the bottles, to stop me from hitting any 'wall', which seemed to work. I'm now just in some pain on right foot, inside thighs and at bottom of back from where the shorts rubbed, otherwise feeling grand. Now starts the slow tapering down, and building of reserves til the day itself in 3 weeks time... :)

12/04:
Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me for the London Marathon!! I am now up to a whopping £900!!! That is just a staggering amount of money and it's all down to you guys - so on behalf of the charity EveryChild, thank you.

As you know, tomorrow is the day, and come rain or shine (most likely rain by the looks of things) I'll be at that start line at 9:45am..(..and probably not crossing the start line til 30mins later!). If you happen to watch it on TV, I'll be in a bright orange running vest, possibly with white top on underneath. Those that are coming along on the day, do come to the finish point, where I'll be at point E. Failing that, I'll have my phone with me at the end, so call if you want to meet up. I would love to see you!
Thanks again, and to anyone who still wants to sponsor me, you still have 60 days left, so please dig deep.
