UPDATE:
A big thank you to everyone who donated today. Will be doing my penultimate training run tomorrow. "Carbo-loading" (eating lots of high-carbohydrate foods, tapering training and cutting back on protein) in full swing. Every meal this week will (or has) had a healthy amount of potatoes, pasta or rice to go with it. All essential fuel for running 13.1 miles.

UPDATE: Only five days to go now! A big thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Just heard that there will be an astonishing 54,000 runners this year! Whatever happens on the day, it's going to be epic.

Hi there! I'm running the Great North Run (for the first time!) in memory of my grandparents, who both suffered from dementia.

My grandparents, Raymond and Betty Frost, both suffered terribly with Dementia and were eventually taken by it.They were childhood sweethearts who married young and stayed together for the rest of their lives. My grandfather was a proud man and to see him lose control over his emotions and his memory was a dreadful experience which no-one should have to go through.

Raymond was a proud, hardworking man who fought in the Second World War and even played a part in the D-Day landings. After the war he married his childhood sweetheart, Betty. They celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in 2002, however it was clear then they were struggling to cope on their own. Raymond died in 2006 after a long struggle with the condition and Betty died earlier this year. That's why I'm running for the Alzheimer's Society.
