Father-of-five Simon Anderton, from Heaton, scaled the Tyne Bridge, a Newcastle landmark on Fathers Day with a Real Fathers For Justice banner “to raise awareness of the tens of thousands of children that are unable to see their dads.”

Simon is doing this to fulfil a promise he made to his friend Mike Downes at his wife Elaine's funeral in 2012 after she lost her battle to breast cancer.

Real Fathers for Justice activist Simon Anderton scaled the landmark on Sunday, and 180ft up in the air unfurled a 25ft purple banner marking “fatherless day”.

He plans to stay harnessed to the bridge for two weeks and has supplies of food and water.
