New Foundations - Sinai Trek Challenge 2009 · 21 February 2008

Christian Medical Mission to the people of the Niger Delta, providing medical, water, vaccination and cataract surgery programs

Story

From 18-25 April, I trekked with 9 other individuals up Mount Sinai, Mount St Catherine's (the highest mountain in the Sinai peninsula) and El-Bas-Bashar Mountain as well as surrounding egyptian desert. This was a challenge to raise money for vital New Foundations medical projects and a birthday challenge too!

I surpassed all my expectations and found the trekking incredibly easy-going, physically....I was running up the topmost part of Mount St Catherine's!! My challenge was instead a more personal and emotional feat, from which I gained many intense, profound experiences that have been positively life-transforming, and definitely unforgettable. The trip was not without a few minor issues though - (a) a minor allergic response to the environment had me with swollen, watery eyes and sneezing first couple of days of trekking; (b) a severe migrainous type headache for first couple of days, as my body got used to environment, (c) stomach upset and nausea at start of trek too, (d) a blood sugar low, lightheadedness, more stomach upset on last day at airport....but I survived and none of this stopped me doing any of it - yey!

A BIG THANK YOU TO NEW FOUNDATIONS medical charity for all their support behind the scenes in this. There is still time to donate and help make this venture worthwhile -  ALL donated money goes directly to New Foundations medical charity.

New Foundations charity is a GREAT cause, working in a tough region to try and effect change and transformation in implementing healthcare where there is none. ALL monies donated go directly to the charity's projects in the Niger Delta, so everything you give goes directly to the people needing it. These guys are really inspirational - please help me to do my little bit and help support their work:-)

If you would like to sponsor me for this, I would truly appreciate it; THANKS,

It's finished!.....I conquered it! Yey!

Many Blessings,
Rach

PPS - Check out the current ultrasound equipment YOU could HELP NEW FOUNDATIONS with (details on New Foundations website and in summary below....(contact: New Foundations from their website for more info or to help!)

"Diagnostics are always difficult on camp and decisions to operate are currently clinically based. Many patients present with abdominal masses, some clear cut , some not. To operate in a rural setting is not undertaken lightly and we believe access to Ultrasound would be extremely valuable in clarifying these decisions. We need approx £5000 to purchase an refurbished machine that is of suitable quality, light for travel, durable and serviceable in the Uk. We know this is a wish list item, but any help would be very welcome..." taken directly from New Foundations Website.
