Sri Lanka Community Challenge · 25 March 2006 to 2 April 2006 ·

ActionAid works with courageous women and girls who are championing change, challenging inequality, and leading their communities towards a more equal, fair, and just future. We back the women’s rights organisations they lead and take action to challenge harmful societal norms and unfair systems.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. After a fantastic trek last year to Peru where, thanks to you guys, I raised over £2700 for Action Aid, I've decided to do it again!

This time, the challenge is to spend 8 days in Sri Lanka, helping build a house in an area affected by the tsunami last year. This is in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, a house building charity. I'll be working with other volunteers and the family who's house it will be, as well as some people who know what they're doing!

I really want to do this challenge as an opportunity to find out more about Sri Lanka, the difficulties faced there and what is being done by the people there to overcome them. I have no house building experience (although I am getting a house extension done soon) so this will be a big challenge for me

As before, I'm paying the cost of the trip myself, so all the money you give will go to either Action Aid or Habitat for Humanity for their fantastic work. Please give generously. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: ActionAid will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support.
