My story

HELP GIVE ME MOTIVATION TO COMPLETE A MARATHON AND HELP SAVE DOGS LIVES!!

YES that’s right I said MARATHON – 26.2 miles!! Why I hear you ask – out of sheer madness and with the hope that my friends and family can help me save some Greyhound's and Lurcher's lives.

So for those of you that know me, you will know that "exercise" is a dirty word to me! Many of you will have heard me say "lifts are there to be used; it would be rude not too!!" I am the type of person that drives to the shops when they are only 3 streets away from my house!

On the 8th January 2012 I hit the big 30. I found out that also on the exact same day of my birthday, Walt Disney World Florida were organising their marathon - what better way to way to celebrate than to run it with my brother and husband! After all I LOVE Disney!!!

In in summer of 2011, I took the plunge and booked flights, accommodation, and entrance fees for the race. No turning back now! My aim.... is to complete it! I can't say fairer than that! My plan - to CROSS THE LINE OF MY FIRST MARATHON NO MATTER WHAT - RUN, JOG, WALK OR CRAWL!!

You will know that I have two beautiful dogs that I spoil rotten and they get everything they need (and lots of stuff they don’t need!) My dogs Suzy Q (5yr old Greyhound) and Marmite (1 year old Lurcher) are my world. You will know that Marmite was a rescue dog from Greyhound Gap, and goodness knows what life he would have had if he was not rescued by this wonderful charity. I have decided I wanted to give something back to them, in appreciation for bringing Marmite into my life. Although he can be a little s*d at times - we love him to BITS!!

Greyhound Gap does a fantastic job of helping save the lives of death row (to be put to sleep) greyhounds and lurchers. Dogs that are abandoned by their owners to the local pounds, and given 7 days before being destroyed; or strays where no owners ever come forward to claim them. I can't imagine how people can do this, as I am a massive animal lover. These dogs need our help and support as they cannot speak for themselves and ask for help!

"Greyhound Gap is a small independent charity set up to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds and lurchers who find themselves in a 'put to sleep' situations in UK pounds. Funded almost entirely by donations, we rehome around 150 dogs each year. We can have up to 60 dogs in our care at any one time, in foster homes or in holding kennels awaiting suitable foster homes. Greyhound Gap operates on a national basis so our dogs can be homes in most areas throughout the UK." www.greyhoundgap.org.uk

Thank you for taking the time to read my page. Please help other dogs like Marmite find their Forever Homes and enjoy life to the full. Anything you can spare will be appreciated and will spur me on to make it to the end of my 26.2 mile DISNEY MARATHON! Thank you
