Story
My name is John Stirling and I have recently been personally affected by cancer within my family. My father was diagnosed with bladder cancer three years ago, and despite medics best efforts it spread and became terminal. Sadly on the 22nd of September 2010 my father lost his battle and passed away in Willen Hospice.
This tragic event has sparked my best friend (Zain Taylor) and me to organise a small crew of helpers to raise money in aid of cancer research. We initially set out with the intention of arranging a small event but due to the responses that we had received we decided to organise an event on a larger scale.
We have therefore decided to utilise one of our passions by skateboarding from Glasgow in Scotland (the birthplace of my father) to Milton Keynes (the place of my birth) starting on July 11th 2011. We will be skating using our long-boards only and within a 14 day time frame. In theory this is the equivalent of skate boarding 30 miles a day for 14 days, which from another perspective is 14 consecutive marathons in a row. In conjunction with this event we also plan to raise money through hosting a live music event with some awesome bands.
We really appreciate all of the support we receive and are always looking for new sponsors who can turn this event into a reality. We believe that every penny that we raise will make a dramatic difference to lives across the United Kingdom.
