Story
"It’s about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."

My name is Mark Slater and in Septeber of 2010 i will be taking part in along with up to 300 other like minded people for a charity cycle ride for Help for heroes.
I am honoured to have been chosen to do this, and with your help i would like to raise £3000 for help for heroes.
I am ex Royal Air Force and really feel passionate about doing my bit for Help for Heroes,If you don't know what the charity does then please visit the website http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/.
My story really begins when i stumbled across H4H website and saw the tremendous support that people have given to this charity.
I read on the site about previous rides that had taken place and decided to Pre register for these very over subscribed events and to my shock a few weeks later i received an email telling me i had been chosen!
At this time there were a few problems that needed sorting out before i could definitely go (work etc). That very evening my wife Heather and I sat and watched a very powerful documentary on BBC1 called "wounded". I urge anyone to try and watch this on BBC iplayer as it was this program that changed everything, through tear filled eyes Heather looked at me and said "you've got to do it".
From that moment on there was no turning back,im in training already, have a sore bum and my legs burn, ive got a long road ahead both in training and seeking sponsors.
400 miles in 4 days might not be a lot to Lance Armstrong but to me its going to be a massive achievement!
Please give as much as you can afford, if you cant afford much then any contribution is very gratefully received.
I will be updating this regularly with reports on my Bum, please keep checking in
