Story
A group of friends and I are taking part in a special charity 'Sleepwalk' to help raise funds for The Children's Trust. It would be fantastic if you would sponsor and/or join us. Sleepwalk is a 10 mile walk under the stars starting in Reigate's Priory Park at 10pm on Saturday 25th September. Sign up here for £15.
As many of you will know my daughter, Susanna, has multiple disabilities and complex health needs, as a results of a rare brain disorder discovered at birth, and I hope that by taking part in the fundraising event, I will help to raise awareness of The Children's Trust and its services.
The Children's Trust is a national charity, based in Tadworth, which provides care, education and therapy for children with multiple disabilities and complex health needs, and rehabillitation services to children with an acquired brain injury.
For many children with multiple disabilities a good night's sleep is a rare luxury and this is often the case for parents too, who need to provide 24-hour care for their child. Susanna also suffers from epilepsy and requires regular medication throughout the day to control this, so it is very full-on 24-7 care. Because Susanna has very specific needs, she has a care assistant at home over the summer, but having occasional respite care days at The Children's Trust during the year, allows my husband, daughter Jenny and I to have an occasional break too. Susanna enjoys her time at the Trust and this means that we can also enjoy a day out, or short holiday, knowing that she is receiving the best care and attention in a home-from-home environment.
The Sleepwalk event is a 10 mile walk under the stars, starting at 10pm on Saturday 25th September 2010 in Priory Park, Reigate.
