Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Birmingham’s Smash Bro’z Hip Hop Collective recently qualified to compete in the World Hip Hop Dance Championships in Las Vegas this July. This is great news for the region, as it’s the first time Birmingham and the West Midlands have been represented at this prestigious event alongside crews from Italy, Australia, USA and Japan.  However, to make it Vegas they need to raise £6000 for flights and accommodation - and this is where you come in!

About Smash Bro'z The crew has six members ranging from 17 to 23 years, from different creative and cultural backgrounds, and from different parts of the city including Nechells, Selly Oak, Stechford and Sutton Coldfield.   Aside from dancers, crew members also include a poet and spoken word artist, technical graffiti artist, and college students. Collectively the Smash Bro’z has a wide knowledge of different dance styles such as Nu Style Hip Hop, ballet, b-boying (break dance), contemporary, physical theatre, and tap.

Artistic Director of the Smash Bro’z is 20-year-old Kashmir Leese who currently lives in Aston, Birmingham. One of the co-founders of the dance crew, Kashmir is forging a career as a professional dancer and actor.

Kashmir said: “When we started up the crew we had a goal and that was to show Birmingham and the rest of the UK that there was talent here and we were different from the regular dance crews you’d see at competitions and events.  Qualifying in the Midlands and getting to the finals of the UK Hip Hop Championships in Watford was always our aim, and now that we’ve achieved that we need to raise the money for Las Vegas, compete and represent to the best of our ability. It would be an honour to represent Birmingham at this event. We’re all committed to the crew and would love to have the experience of taking part with the rest of the world.  We are busy trying to raise money ourselves and it would be great if people could support us in any way, to make this competition a reality for all of us.”

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to make a donation: we get your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
