Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Our team represents the Smiths News Borehamwood Group and together we are going to do the 26 mile Ridgeway Walk Challenge!

The Ridgeway walk is one of the oldest National Trails and we are going to brave a 26 mile walk from Midnight Saturday 30th June 2012. The walk will take approximately 12 hours. (http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/Ridgeway)

We are doing this for our chosen Charity -Sense. Sense campaigns and supports Deafblind adults and Children. Their exceptional work is invaluable to those that are deafblind  and their families. (See the story of Elliot: http://www.sense.org.uk/support/who_we_help/elliot_who_we_help)

The money that we raise could fund the following:

£5 – Could buy a set of musical bells to help stimulate even the tiniest amount of a deafblind child’s hearing in music therapy.

£7.50 could pay for a vital first assessment: a holistic approach, which allows Sense experts to create an individual therapy plan for every child.

£10- could pay for a vital first assessment: a holistic approach, which allows Sense experts to create an individual therapy plan for every child.

£15 – Could pay for a tactile book to develop a child’s sense of sight and touch at a Sense family centre.

£25 – Could buy an interactive light tube to help stimulate a deafblind child’s remaining sight.

£50 – Could help pay for a deafblind child’s vital first assessment.

£700 – Could send a deafblind child on a dream holiday. These holidays not only provide life-changing experiences, full of fun, learning and special care but they also give carers and family members a well earned break allowing them to spend more quality time with other children and family.

£1,000 – Could enable Sense to buy a sonic chair at one of their day centers enabling more deafblind people to benefit from these sensations. Operated by a large button control these chairs heat up, massage different parts of the body, and vibrate at different frequencies.

It is a tough challenge but with your support we know we can do it, and at the same time raise enough money for our cause! So please donate anything that you can, every penny counts!

Thank you!
