Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

**Update 12/7/10**

I am delighted to report that we made it! We took to the water on the Coventry Canal at 06:20 in the early morning sunshine, arriving to a fanfare welcome at Snarestone 9 hours 20 minutes and 26.5 miles later. The sponsorship money is still coming in, and I would like to thank you all for your generosity. Special thanks also to our "Support Team" for following us through the counties, feeding us and keeping our spirits up. The welcome we got arriving home in Snarestone will stay with us for a long time. There are some photographs of the day on our village website www.snarestone.org.uk

On behalf of the paddlers, Thank You!

Richard.

This idea is one of many discussed late on a Sunday evening in The Globe after a couple of sociable drinks. The difference with this one, however, is that we are attempting to actually follow it up and see it through. After completing the Great North Run for the CFTrust, I vowed never to do long distance running again, but still wanted a challenge to work towards. Kayaking seemed perfect, especially as it can be done sitting down.

Fortunately, in Snarestone, we have the Ashby Canal and our plan is to start from Coventry on the Coventry Canal, head north for 5 miles to Marston Junction and then take on the 21 miles of the Ashby canal to the tunnel at The Globe, Snarestone. We expect this to take all day, as early training sessions are indicating that we may have taken on quite a task here!

I am very lucky to be joined by a fine body of men whose enthusiasm for the event has surprised me already. Lets hope we actually pull this one off.

This page is set up to collect sponsorship for our team of rowers, so if you would like to support our cause in any way, no matter how small, please make your donation here, and leave us any words of advice or encouragement along the way!!

Thank you very much,

Richard.
