Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Just over two months ago, I broke my leg and thumb in a climbing accident off the north coast of Scotland. In an attempt to make a good thing come of a bad thing, and as a way of showing how grateful I am to live in a place that will send a helicopter to pluck a beleaguered climber off a remote sea cliff, I am planning to do a sponsored crutch up Snowdon. I'm raising money for Medecins Sans Frontiers that does excellent work providing medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 70 countries.

I'd originally planned to attempt my ascent of the big one via the Llanberis path on Saturday but we woke up to find engulfed in bleak weather with horizontal rain and high winds battering the hut. The weather on the Sunday wasn't great but it wasn't raining and we realised if we ascend via the Pyg track we would be in the lee of the wind. We realised early on that the Pyg track was a little challenging: it's full of things to clamber over and slippery wet rock that require the odd bit of crutch gymnastics. Nonetheless, with the very able support of my chums, Alex and Chris, we made it to the top in about six hours and then down again in two. It was fantastic to be back in the mountains and really wonderful to breathe the mountain air again. So big thanks go to Alex and Chris who have been so supportive.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Médecins Sans Frontières UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.
