Story
Our Broadway Centre in Shepherd's Bush uses over 4000 pairs of socks a year as part of its work with homeless and vulnerable people. Working alongside our chiropodist, GP and nurse, our Health Team provides Broadway Centre clients with an assessment of their health needs and encourages them to prioritise looking after their health.
In September we are making a push to restock (or resock!) our sock service which gives out free socks and appropriate footwear to people using our health services.
Socks may sound like a silly thing to prioritise but sleeping rough can lead to huge foot problems including trench foot, frostbite, ingrown toenails, corns, bunions and cracked painful feet.
Why are feet such a problem for homeless people?:
* Increased risk of diabetes & diabetic complications
* Walking long distances
* Self neglect
* Poor hygiene
* Exposure to elements
* Poor nutrition
* Lack of finance to buy suitable footwear
Our September Sock Appeal is about so much more than cosy toes. Please sponsor our socks today!
£5 buys one pair of plimsoles
£10 buys eight pairs of socks
£20 buys one pair of trainers
£50 buys a chiropody appointment for two people
£100 buys a health needs assessment for one rough sleeper
