Story
Thanks to everyone that has donated and offered support.
I finished the 10.4 mile walk in 3 hours 26 Minutes which I'm told is pretty good. :D
There was a total of 1000 walkers and a grand total of over £80,000 has been pledged for the cause.
It was an amazing night, the atmosphere was fantastic and it was great to meet new people and form firmer friendships with people I already knew. But also it was nice to think about mum and indeed all the people that the walkers were walking for.
I'm doing Kirkwood Hospice’s Midnight Memory Walk on 20th June, I’m doing this walk in memory of my mum and granddad.
Its 10 miles starting at the Galpharm Stadium at Midnight. Apparently I should only take 4 hours.... I recon I'll be done by lunchtime. Lol
Most of you will be aware of the circumstances that accompany me doing this walk.
On the 29th of June 2008 my mum died suddenly. The walk for me commemorates the anniversary of her death and I feel that it is a nice way to celebrate her life and the good that she did. She was a fantastic teacher who touched alot of children and gave a lot of herself in everything she did.
One person I spoke to about her funeral told me how they were supporting children in an exam on the day of her funeral and were torn about what they should do as they really wanted to show their respect for her. They told me in the end the decision was easy, they thought about what she would do and recognised that for mum the children always came first.
Kirkwood hospice was her chosen charity and a plate was in situ at her funeral in place of flowers.
I know there’s a lot of sponsored events at the moment and for most money is tight. Anything you can spare will be very very appreciated!
