It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. We are taking part in the 2007 Hydro Active Women's Challenge the UK's premier 5k women's road running event in Birmingham City Centre on Sunday 16th September.

This is our second fundraising event and all proceeds will be going direct to Pancreatic Cancer UK. The charity aims to raise awareness of cancer of the pancreas to aid earlier diagnosis and to stimulate and enable more research into better detection and treatment.

Our aim is to raise money and also promote awareness of this terrible disease.

  • Forty years ago, few children survived childhood leukaemia. Now, the survival rate is 80%.
  • Forty years ago, 46% of women diagnosed with breast cancer survived five years or more. Now that figure is also 80%.
  • Forty years ago, 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survived five years or more. That figure is still 3%.

Each year, around 7,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and there are more than 6,600 deaths. It affects men and women in roughly equal proportions. This type of cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death in the UK, and has the lowest survival rate of all cancers approximately 3% of those diagnosed survive five years or more. There is no early detection test, treatment is limited and there is no cure. Because symptoms generally do not appear until the disease is well advanced, the average survival time after diagnosis is just six months.

Sonia our loved one died aged 33 from this disease, only 4 months from diagnosis. She was and always will be an inspiration to us all.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Pancreatic Cancer UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
