Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So, I manage to complete the London marathon again- for the 6th time. This was probably the most difficult one to date. It was not the weather, which was varied and therefor great for running, or the support, that was fantastic right through the course, but the fact that I probably started the marathon with a stress fracture in my left 3rd metatarsal, and had bleeding blisters!
The Snow White costume was a hit again and really worked to get support from the crowd - especially the kids along the way.
I met Lize-Mari and Steve halfway at Tower Bridge with my best half marathon time and it was great to see them. At mile 15 my blisters really staterd hurting and the Nurofen started wearing off. Mile 20 had me feeling very sorry for myself, when a girl with one artificial leg passed me, and I stopped feeling sorry for myself and appreciated the privilege to run. It was with a great sense of achievement that I received my medal at the end, even though the camel and the caterpillar beat me to the finish line!
I am nearly off the crutches now and should be able to start running again in 3 weeks time. However I am still way off my fundraising target, mainly because I do not have a sponsoring company to match my fundraising this year. Please see what you can do to support this very worthy cause.
I ran in aid of the National Osteoporosis Society again. Osteoporosis literally means ‘porous bones’ and is often referred to as the ‘fragile bone disease’. The National Osteoporosis Society is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. My mom (79) suffers from osteoporosis, so it is a cause close to my heart.
