I decided it was time I do something a little different to raise some money for charity - a shark-dive sounded perfect!
I can't swim very well, I hate being underwater, and I don't like sharks!
The dive itself will be at the Blue Planet Aquarium in Cheshire on Sunday 25th October. I've chosen this sponsored event because I'm honestly a wimp when it comes to water. As much of 'a life changing experience' diving may be for some, it's certainly not for me! - I'm terrified! I mean how can a wetsuit protect against all of those teeth?! But then this is all about being challenged.. right?!
I've chosen this amazing charity because their work really does mean a lot to me. I fought for over 10 years to stop self-harming, and I can't emphasize enough just how important it is for self-harm to be better understood. SANE work hard to do just this, and speaking from personal experience, this work truly makes a difference. I receive emails from kids all over the world who contact me through my own self-harm awareness website, and they all say the same thing (not literally - that would be weird!) We can all agree on one thing - 'It's such a relief to know that *someone* understands'. This notion can literally be a lifesaver. SANE work hard to reach out to people desperately in need, and none of us can deny that one-day that someone might just be us. Plus, this of course is just one small part of what SANE are about
