My name is Sophia and I am 6 years old. I live with my mummy, daddy and twin sister Layla. Layla and I were born nearly 12 weeks early weighing just 2lb 10 and 2lb 14. We spent 7 weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Bath's RUH before mummy and daddy could finally take us home for cuddles!

When I was about 6 months mummy and the doctors noticed that my physical development was delayed and at 12 months I was diagnosed with having Cerebral Palsy, due to a bleed I suffered on my brain when I was born.

The type of Cerebral Palsy I have is called Spastic Diplegia, this means that my legs are the most effected, making my muscles tight and causing me great difficulty in doing everyday things like sitting, standing and walking. I find it quite hard to get around and spend a lot of my time in my wheelchair. I have a frame to help me walk but I get tired very easily and can only walk short distances. I would love to be able to walk, dance and run just like my sister and friends but I know at the moment it is just a dream. 

This is why I am asking for help, there is an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhyzotomy (SDR) which will loosen the tightness in my muscles and help me to realise my dream of being able to walk all by myself and hopefully one day I could dance and run like my friends!

Sophia is a beautiful, bright, bubbly and happy little girl who loves life and being around her friends however there are times when she is saddened that she can not do the things that most of us take for granted. We want to try and raise enough money for Sophia to have this amazing life changing operation and the intensive physio therapy that will help make her dreams reality. It is not currently funded by the NHS and costs a LOT of money! To watch her take her first unaided steps is something that is almost uncomprehensible for us but actually could well be possible if we can raise the needed funds.
