If you have never suffered with your mental health you are one of the few lucky ones.
Most of us, at some point in our lives, will experience some sort of mental health issue; ranging from the mild and transient to the overwhelming and severe and, of course, anywhere in between.
Yet, mental health disorders remain stigmatised and often not spoken about leaving those experiencing them to feel completely alone: which is barmy when you know 1/3 of people have been affected.
I have experienced difficulties with my mental health for many years. I continue to do so, much to my ongoing frustration.
Everyday I have to make conscious efforts to manage my mental health and over the years I have found 2 therapies that really help me. One is yoga, the other is running. (On top of regimented drug therapy and the support of a psychiatric care team!).
In 2016 I have been a bit rubbish at maintaining yoga and running,
despite knowing that they help me - please welcome the self-sabotaging aspect of my illness! So, as we approach the end of this absolute turd of a year, I am making 4 promises to myself for 2017....
1. I will run every day in January to raise money for Mind, the mental health charity (minimum of 5 minutes a day as per the challenge rules)
2. I will also complete a 30 day hot yoga challenge in January (as per the studio rules)
3. I will compete in one running event in each month of 2017 to complete the year with at least 12 event medals
4. I will maintain a steady yoga practice all year, completing at least 10 classes a month
With the aim of kicking off 2017 with a healthy mind and body I am asking you to also join me, if you can, with the Mind Run Every Day in January campaign. Sign up through this link:

And, if you can spare a few quid to support Mind as I complete this R.E.D challenge, then that would be pretty awesome too.
All other aspects of this challenge I am doing for myself, and whether I can or can't complete them isn't the issue. It is just for me, to help me feel good and by declaring them here I am going to try and hold myself accountable to them!
