Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

We are raising money in memory of Sophie Pollock who passed away on 24th February 2007 from a brain tumour.

Sophie was diagnosed with a pontine glyoma in April 2006. Over the next year she underwent many different treatments, including radio-therapy, chemotherapy and many operations, but sadly passed away in February 2007.

Over the months following Sophie's diagnosis we had to watch her regression into dependency, her developmental milestones lost one by one. We could do nothing but care for her, trying to make her life as comfortable and stimulating as possible and to enjoy the time we had together.

During her illness Sophie had always talked of raising money for brain tumour research and in particular for children suffering from the same type of tumour which she herself had. Together with her mum, Carol, Sophie agreed that they would walk from Lands End to John O'Groats when she was better. Sadly, this was not to be.

Carol is determined to fulfill her commitment to Sophie and will begin the walk from Lands End to John O'Groats on 8th April, the day of Sophie's 15th Birthday.

Walking over three months, Carol will cover over 1,100 miles on this monumental trek through the heart of Britain, taking in parts of the Penine Way, West Highland Way and the Cotswold Way. On route she will be joined by family and friends to help her along the way.

We want to raise as much money as we can for the Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign to help other people in the same position as Sophie and to assist research into cancer.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.

Please donate generously.

Many thanks for your support.
