Sponsored Vegan diet week. · 24 October 2012

Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is the world's leading medical humanitarian aid organisation. We work in over 70 countries - in conflict zones, natural disasters and epidemics. We are independent, neutral and impartial. We provide medical care where it's needed most.

Story

Southampton Atheist Society committee are going Vegan for a week. This act of dietary deprivation is in aid of Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, as part of Non-Prophet Week.

Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an independent humanitarian medical aid organisation. They are committed to providing medical aid where it is most needed, regardless of race, religion, politics or gender and also to raising awareness of the plight of the people they help. MSF delivers emergency aid in more than 60 countries to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural or man-made disasters or exclusion from healthcare. In emergencies and their aftermath, MSF rehabilitates and runs hospitals and clinics, performs surgery, battles epidemics, carries out vaccination campaigns, operates feeding centres for malnourished children and offers mental healthcare. When needed, MSF also constructs wells, dispenses clean drinking water and provides shelter materials, such as blankets and plastic sheeting.

Non-Prophet Week is a week of coordinated charity events on university campuses in the UK, by non-religous student societies. This will be the third Non-Prophet week organised by the AHS, and we hope you'll support us in raising a fantastic sum of money for a very worthy cause.

Non Prophet Week officially starts on Monday 29th October. The commitee of Southampton Atheist Society will start their challenge on midnight of Saturday 3rd November, finishing on midnight on the following Saturday 10th. For the duration of the challenge, we will be eating vegan, that's no animal or animal produts. Sound tough? Hope so, because we'd really love you to donate generously. We will be blogging about our experiences, taking photos, and generally letting everyone know how much fun we are (not) having.
