In light of the sad news of the much loved Francis King, St Peter's College Boat Club will be joining thousands of fellow rowers on the 30th January (Saturday 2nd Week) in the StrokeforStroke campaign, raising money for The Stroke Association

Members on SPCBC will be hopping on those "much beloved" ergs with the aim of rowing a metre for every stroke sufferer in the UK...150,000...with a twist. There will be two teams, lead by the men's and women's captains, racing each other to that 150,000m mark. Who dares wins!

Please help SPCBC to get a fantastic coach and friend back to the Isis and help others throughout the UK in a similar position.

A message from the SPCBC President, Rebecca Howett:

The legendary Francis King, SPCBC lower boats coach and all-round good guy, suffered a major stroke just before Christmas.

After a period in the John Radcliffe Hospital, he is currently an inpatient at the Oxford Centre for Enablement (OCE) where he is expected to remain for a few months. As a consequence of the stroke he lost movement and spatial awareness on the left side of his body but fortunately his intellect and speech remain unimpaired. The OCE doctors set weekly goals for Francis and provide a packed timetable of rehabilitation and physiotherapy classes for him to follow. Francis is making good progress.

As the St Peter’s College crews commence preparations for Torpids, Francis’ presence on the riverbank is being sorely missed. We’ve decided to participate in the nationwide Stroke for Stroke fundraising event to raise money for The Stroke Association, a charity which helps over a million people in the UK who are living with the after effects of a stroke.
