Blunham Cricket Marathon · 26 August 2010

The BPFA provides sporting and recreational facilities to the general public in the village of Blunham. One of our groups is a thriving cricket team of over 120 members providing adult and youth cricket in Bedfordshire. This year we have a fledgling youth football team joining us. We aim to improve our facilities this year by extending and refurbishing our pavilion.

Story

Dear All,

From 10am Thursday 26th August to 7pm Monday 30th August, I will be playing Cricket non-stop for 105 hours to create a new Guinness World Record. The majority of the money raised will be going to charities such as Breast Cancer Research, Orchid (Fighting Male Cancers), Sue Ryder Homes and our own Playing Field Association.

The record has been hotly contested over the last 3 years with it changing hands more than half a dozen times as each hemisphere turns from Winter to Summer. It is currently held by an Australian team at 67 hours (although a Kiwi side has recently played for 100 hours, but they have bent the rules to set this time). To decide the matter, we will be playing for 105 hours.

We want to raise as much money as possible for various causes, as well as set a lasting time that others may think twice about beating. Both teams will be playing in pink and purple colours to represent the acknowledged 'awareness' colours of Breast Cancer and Testicular Cancer. We will also be appearing on Cricket AM on the 7th August (9am - 10.30am), to be broadcast live on Sky 1 and Sky Sports 1.

Please support this worthy event with a donation and/or come and support the event over the August Bank Holiday weekend where there are plenty of planned events happening which will be released in the press nearer to the time.

Thanks for reading.
