We provide a lifetime of support to the wider Army Family.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Just a brief intro: I'm part of a team of 9 (originally 12!) who have pledged to raise money for some very deserving causes by cycling the distance from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Kandahar, Afghanistan.  We aim to complete this task over a rolling 72 hr period, at the Metrocentre, 5-8 Nov 10 (Green Mall, by the entrance).

Although on this page we're hoping to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund, I have also set up another page to raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal here:

So, please give whatever you can spare - all donations are gratefully appreciated!  Also, if you're in the area, please feel free to drop by and offer encouragement.  You can even give by offering a little leg-work on one of our guest bikes!!!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

UPDATE: 6 Nov 10

A brief update - the guys and gals have been grafting like demons on the bikes since 10am yesterday, covering 3779km - with 1973km left to push out.

Big thanks also go out to the public who volunteered to give up some of their valuable time to do a stint on one the visitors' bikes - especially Claire and Katie who thought they'd keep pushing us for a mental 4hrs!!!

The public have also been exremely generous with their donations on the day - again many thanks!

Presently our bums hurt, and the legs are starting to feel the strain, but it's been well worth it for the response from you guys.  Cheers - Dan

Update: 7 Nov 10

The big push!  We're looking good (albeit tired and achy).  Total distance to date is 5431km, leaving 321km to smash through our total. Awesome work!  We'll be here for the remainder of the day, and will pedal through the target until the Metrocentre closes today!

Fundraising is still going well in-situ due to the generous nature of the Sunday shoppers: which in turn serves to spur the team on - well done and thanks again!

Again, please feel free to donate if you haven't done so already as these causes are very deserving.  Thanks - Dan.

Update: 12 Nov 10

Evening all!  A while since my last update I know, but I was waiting for fundraising totals so far to be counted after completion.

So, how did we do?  The target was hit on Sunday Afternoon, and we wrapped up the show on Sunday evening - in total 6471.95km was cycled.  Thanks again to the guys and girls who came by to join us on the bikes!  Through the week, tins and buckets have been counted.  Totals raised in the Metrocentre are as follows:

RBL Poppy Appeal  £3071.33

ABF £1150.88

REME Benevolent Fund £808.33

Yeomanry Benevolent Fund £541.42

Thanks again to everyone who came by and offered their support, and all who kindly donated and helped us raise this amount for these deserving charities.

Regards - Dan
