Although the Kenyan government claims that primary school is free, the reality is that every pupil still needs to pay school fees, as well as associated costs of uniforms, books, bags and exam fees. As the new year approaches the biggest challenge for Patricia is finding the funding to send all the children to school. That’s where you come in! We want to raise funding over this Xmas period to send everyone of the 50 orphans at Discover to Recover Centre to school in 2011.
We are asking you at this time to support one orphan for a full year in any one of the following ways:
Primary Schooling (45 orphans):
· School fees per year per child = 7,500 Kenyan shillings = £60.00/$95.00
· School books, uniforms, stationery and exam fees = 4,900 Ksh = £40.00/ $60.00
FUNDRAISING TARGET = £4,500/ $6,975
Secondary Schooling (5 orphans):
· School fees (boarding)/ year/ child = 37,800 Ksh = £300/ $470
· School books, uniforms, stationery and exam fees = 12,600 KsH = £100/ $155
FUNDRAISING TARGET = £2,000/ $3,125
Living expenses (50 orphans):
· Food, medical, clothing, toiletries = £16.50 ($26) per child/month (£200 / $315 per child each year)
FUNDRAISING TARGET = £10,000/ $15,600
TOTAL TARGET = £16,500 / $25,600
Our friend Patricia is the leader of a church in Kitale, Kenya, and is herself living with HIV. Patricia is an inspirational woman with a powerful story. Many of these orphans are living with HIV and totally destitute.
