BARBARA AND RICHARD

SPONSORED SLIM

FOR SHELBY

Please give as much as you can afford.

Me and Richard want desperately to lose weight, but needed an incentive to make us stick to a diet. (Previous tries have suffered due to the lack of motivation and the lure of take-aways). So we are sponsoring Shelby, a 7 years old girl who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. Shelby’s condition seems to be made worse by the dust in her bedroom carpet so her mum Louise would like to see if a wooden floor would help this problem.

Also, due to her illness, when Shelby sleeps in a normal bed, she coughs all night to try to clear the mucus that builds up. This problem doesn’t occur so badly during her many visits to hospital (5 stays of perhaps 3 weeks in the last year alone). The main reason for the difference is that hospitals have beds which can be adjusted so that Shelby is propped up stopping the mucus building up quite so badly. Louise has tried using pillows to prop her daughter up at home, but this doesn’t seem to be as effective as the raised bed.

We chose to sponsor Shelby when we heard how unselfish this little girl is. (Articles about her have appeared in the local press telling how she cancelled the birthday party she had been planning for weeks so that she could be on the protest march in the fight to save her school, and that along with more than 100 other cystic fibrosis sufferers she starred in a fundraising calendar for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.) Additionally, when responding to our appeal in the Hemel Hempstead HeraldExpress of Thursday January 24th to find a worthy recipient, rather than ask for anything for her own daughter Shelby’s mum suggested we sponsor the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

So We now ask for your help in raising funds for Shelby to try to address both of the above problems. We hope to lose 10 stone between us before we go on holiday on 11th June so look on this as our first, but not final, target. This page will be active for quite a while but if you want to know how far we get by our first target date, the June total weight loss will be published in the Hemel Hempstead HeraldExpress.

The Lions Club of Hemel Hempstead have told us they are delighted to have been asked to support this project and would encourage everyone to be generous. We, in turn, thank them for their generosity in backing us.

Please dig deep and sponsor us online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Hemel Hempstead Lions Charity Trust will receive your money on our behalf faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
