Story
My brother Pat is 50 this year and suggested that we should go to South Africa and help to build houses in a Township outside Capetown.
In a weak moment I agreed but little realized that it would involve manual labour and potentially breaking my already damaged body.
As you may know I have undertaken a challenge in 2008 to help build houses for a better future for poor people in South Africa as part of the Niall Mellon Trust. More information on the Trust can be found at http://www.irishtownship.com/htm/blitz2008.htm .
As part of this initiative I need to raise at least £3,500 and anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated. The money is being raised through the Sportsman's Charity to make it as tax efficient as possible and will go directly to the Niall Mellon Trust.
The Niall Mellon Township Trust was established in 2002 to provide homes to the impoverished communities in the townships in South Africa. In the first year of operation the trust built 150 homes and this year they will build 7000 homes for some of South Africa's poorest people. None of this would be possible, however, without the widespread generosity and support that they have received. Because of the enormous support and interest our volunteers have generated, the trust now have a workforce of over 1,700 South Africans building homes all year round.
