Thanks for taking the time to visit the JustGiving page for David Smart and Chris Barker.  We are aiming to run the Transalpine Run in 2010 to raise money for St Peter's Hospice, hence our team name of SPURT, the St Peter's Ultra Running Team.  Follow our progress on our blog at www.spurt300.blogspot.com

What is the TransAlp?

The TransAlp is an annual foot race across the Alps, running (walking or crawling) over mountain paths (http://www.transalpine-run.com). It is recognised as one of the toughest challenges across the world. At 300km it is equivalent to a marathon a day for 8 days and the cumulative ascent of over 18,000m is more frequently reached by aeroplane than on foot.

Where is it?

The 2010 event begins in the town of Ruhpolding in Southern Germany and runs through Austria, ending at Sexten in the Italian Dolomites. The highest peak climbed is 2,870 metres.

When is it?

The TransAlp will take place from the 4 September until 11 September 2010, leaving David and Chris about four months to complete their training plan.

Why are we attempting it?

Most people will consider us mad, they may be right. However we have set ourselves a target of raising £30,000 for St Peters Hospice, a fantastic charity providing care to the terminally ill.

                                                               www.stpetershospice.org.uk

Bristol based St Peters Hospice has been running for 30 years, providing palliative care to adults with life threatening illness, supporting the relatives, friends and professional carers of the patients and all of these services are given free of charge. In this time of Credit Crunch, St Peters Hospice has to rely on fundraising more than ever. This is why David and Chris have committed to raise £30,000 for the Hospice by running the TransAlp.
