Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Arthritis Care will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Help me help others by making funds available to assist those in need in all sorts of ways.

My aim is to be able to donate enough to fund a pain management workshop for 10 people and to bring a smile back to the faces of those suffering.

My training started in earnest on 1/1/07 and so far so good! I aim to do 5 training runs a week with the view to finishing the FLM in under 3 hours 30 mins which would be a personal best by 10 mins. I shall provide training updates on a regular basis.

Any donation is gratefully accepted.

Many thanks for your support.

1 month into training and the longest run to date was last Sunday's 15.25miler. All going well so far. After this weekend's cross country race I have 2 more races planned specifically to help me train for the FLM. On 18/2 it's the Gt East Run...a 20k race... and on 4/3 it's the 20m race in Wymondham.

16/3/07

The Gt East Run went well. I raced it rather to see how I felt in terms of fitness and speed and although I suffered a few twinges towards the end overall it was a good race. I didn't enter the Wymondham race in the end as the weather forecast was poor... as it happened the day turned out fine so I did my long run around town.

Just over a month to go and so far so good. I've now done runs on 18m, 19.5m and 21m on successive Sundays and have a 20m run planned this weekend. Once that is run I'll just have one 22m run to do before starting to "taper" (reduce the mileage) before race day.

Steve.

Less than 3 weeks to go now and the last long run has been run...slowly! Legs have become "heavy" over the last few weeks so it's essential that I taper properly so as to feel fit and refreshed for the BIG DAY.

6 days and counting!!! Now tapering with last run probably tomorrow. Bit of a groin strain worry after Saturday's run but hopefully rest and physio on Wednesday will sort that out!

16/4/07

It's Friday 20/4 at 3.30pm.....the weather is getting worse.....that is hotter!! 23degrees forecast for London on Sunday. My worst case scenario but at least it'll be good for the spectators! I'll have alot of support on the course, Sue, my better half, my and her parents, Jeff(my dad's step father) and cousin Liz visiting from Oz!

3hours 30mins was the target time many moons ago. Now I'll be happy to break 4hours! Still you never know..it might turn out alright on the day.

I'll report back next week!

20/4/07

Well that was a warm one! Got round in one piece...just!

Having started off conservatively to protect a potential injury recurring and also to counter the heat I picked up the pace at about 7m. As it turned out I should have picked up earlier as the injury I was protecting never materailised though an old hip injury did.

The heat was not too my liking at all but as I drank sensibly and wore a cap I didn't suffer too badly until the final few miles when cramp set in and slowed me right down.

I think the conditions lost me 10-12mins on the day so 4hrs 0mins 35sec wasn't too bad.

It took a while to get to the AC reception at The Jolly Hotel  but it was worth it for the shower and comfy chair.

Thanks to all for your support and sponsorship....roll on next year!
