Our beautiful daughter Scarlet was born at 28 weeks gestation and spent the first three months of her life in intensive care. Unfortunately Scarlet suffered a brain hemorrhage during her stay and was left Severely Deaf and with Cerebral Palsy.
Over the years Scarlet has endured Botox injections, serial casting and tendon lengthening surgery along with physiotherapy daily to help reduce the tightness in her legs and help improve her balance and mobility
Sadly non of these procedures have made much of a difference and Scarlet is relying on her wheelchair more and more to get around.
Scarlets' healthcare professionals have reccomended SDR surgery to release the spasticity in her limbs, along with further tendon lengthening surgery in her calves. These procedures will require months of intensive physiotherapy as Scarlet will need to learn to walk again. The long term aim of this surgery is for Scarlet to have no need for a wheelchair thus giving her her much longed for independence.
SDR surgery for children over the age of 10 is currently not funded by the NHS and our surgeon has informed us the cost of the surgery and post operative care will be around £35,000.
Should we exceed the target amount or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any other reason, the funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.
Please help Scarlet say goodbye to her wheelchair for good.
