Virgin London Marathon 10 AND Royal Parks Half 09 · 16 June 2009

Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

A marathon and a half?

Yes your eye's do not deceive you. I really am running not just one marathon, but one and a half!

This is even more amazing due to the fact that  before my training began I had never run over 5 miles. And am also now a bit fat.

So if you have seen me break a sweat just looking at a meal, have ever lapped me round a cross country track as a child or just want to see 16 stone of ex-smoker look very tired next to London landmarks... sponsor me now.

This is obviously an impressive enough feat for you to donate right now! But if more reason is needed, I am also running running both events for a great charity.

Refuge provides vital services for women and children across the country who experience domestic violence, and it is very close to my heart.

Refuge runs the 24-hour National Domestic Violence Helpline, refuges across the country that offer safety to women every night from a variety of backgrounds and outreach services, as well as undertaking education and research programmes.

  • One in four women will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime. An incident of domestic violence is reported to the police every minute. On average, two women a week are killed by a current or former male partner.

Refuge provide crucial services. Please donate what you can, include Gift Aid and feel great!
