Amnesty International UK is movement of ordinary people standing up for humanity and human rights. Some of our campaigns includes refugees, climate change, children's rights, women's rights, and conflict-affected countries. When we unite even the smallest acts of humanity make a difference.

Story

The Marathon des Sables is a 150 mile, 6 day event running through the sand dunes of Morocco.  I have been training for this for the last year and the big day is the 27th March 2008!!

I am self funded, and feel that the MDS would be an amazing challenge and a huge personal achievement for me and hopefully inspire others to enjoy the benefits of running.

I chose Amensty International because it hits at the heart of everything: Freedom of Choice, Freedom to live with dignity.

Amnesty International ask that donations be made for specific cases.  I have chosen the case of a young woman named Claudina Velasquez.  She was 19 when she was found dead, shot with traces of semen on her body.  2200 other such cases have been reported in Guatemala since 2001, and yet the government has failed to properly investigate them, and bring the killers to justice.  This case touched me particularly because Claudina was simply a law student, and had her whole life ahead of her.

Please donate what you can spare.  The target is a £1000, because I'm hoping I can make that.  But please don't stop there!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Cheers!
