Maccabi League XI versus Arsenal ex-pro/celebrity · 3 May 2008

Action Duchenne exists to support, empower and equip every DMD community in their journey from diagnosis and beyond.

Story

On Sunday June 15th, a Maccabi League XI will be playing against an Arsenal ex-pro/celebrity XI at Edgware Town FC.  For those players representing the Maccabi League, it will be an opportunity to test whatever skill, guile and fitness they may still possess, against one of the most famous clubs in the world.

It will be a great afternoon and all Macabbi League players will be raising sponsorship for Action Duchenne, the main charity in the UK for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  Duchenne is a very serious medical condition; a progressive muscle-wasting disease mainly affecting young boys.  There is currently no treatment to delay or reverse the symptoms.

- It has a 100% fatality rate
- Few people with the condition live beyond their mid-20s.
- Most boys are in a wheelchair by aged 10-12

By sponsoring these fine players, you will be helping to fund research into finding treatments for DMD. There are already some clinical trials underway and all the families and friends of boys with Duchenne remain hopeful that 'a change is gonna come' (to quote Sam Cooke).  It can’t come soon enough.

A proportion of the proceeds will also be going to Treehouse, the autism education charity and Arsenal's charity of the year.
