The Stelvio Pass located in northern Italy is at 2757m the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps and the second highest in the Alps. It's also known as the "Three Languages Peak” as the mountain straddles Austria, Italy and Switzerland. From its Italian side there are some 48 hairpin turns near the top which can be snow-covered even during the summer months. With a distance from the nearest village of over 20km and gradients of over 12% you can see why it is a favourite with the Giro d'Italia, one of the toughest cycle races in the world. Re-energised from their trip to Mount Ventoux in 2006 and the Sella Ronda 2007 these intrepid cyclists Allan Atkinson / Richard Holland / David Morris / Ian Humby / John Czernobay / Chris Pyne / Wayne Jones / James Shipton / Stephen Tregenza / Bob Ballard / Tim Ballard can’t resist a challenge so they’ve packed their bikes and lycra and are off to test themselves again, and at the same time hopefully raise some money for a very worthy cause. Prostate cancer kills one man every hour in the UK and more money needs to go into research so the Stelvio Team have decided to put their insanity to good use and are raising money for PCRF (Prostate Cancer Research Foundation). Any donation that you wish to make would be greatly appreciated and if you would like to make a donation please be sure to tick the gift aid box so the money goes even further. Many thanks for your support.
