On the 20th August 2011 A small team of us including Mary Ngatia, Rachel Brookes, Deborah Nigh, Leah Caldwell, Karen Burden and Tim Morgan will be walking 25 miles in a day across the country side of Northamptonshire to raise money for Steps.
Steps is a small national charity supporting children who can't take walking for granted because of lower limb conditions such as clubfoot or Developmental Dysplasia Hip (DDH).
One of our team members Mary has 4 year old daughter who was diagnosed at 1 year old with DDH. A condition she had from birth which has meant that her hip was dislocated and therefore has not formed properly, since being diagnosed she has had 4 operations and may have to have more. Mary and her family have experienced first hand the fantastic varied support that Steps offer families from the practical help of how to keep a nappy on a child with a hip spica cast, Where to get an adapted car seat, introducing families with children with the same conditions, being an understanding ear and helping you understand medical terms and procedures.
Steps also want to raise awareness of conditions such as DDH to improve early diagnosis in babies so the treatment is less invasive and has better outcomes.
See the video for more details on the Steps Charity and what they do.
We are going to walk 25 miles from Brixworth to Stoke Bruene across public footpaths within 24 hours.
