Providing a range of therapies to children with physical disabilities and complex needs in the North East

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The activity will take place in May 2013,

It starts with our arrival in Cusco Peru at an altitude of 3326 metres  and entails a 27 mile hike to the sacred Inca city of Machu Picchu. The starting point of the hike is Piskacuchu (2700 metres ) .We begin our hike by crossing the bridge over the  Urubamba river and walking along the left shore as it flows north west along the sacred valley. We will arrive in Miskay ( 2800 metres ) and then ascend and finally see from the tallest part of an overlook the impressive Inca city of Llactapata (2650 metres ).We will continue treking along the valley created by the Kusichaca river , gradually climbing for about 5 hours until we reach the community of Alabama ( 3000 metres ) where we set our first camp for the night

Day 1 distance travelled 7.47 miles taking between 5 and 6 hours at a maximum altitude of 3000 metres

Day 2 we begin the most difficult part of the trek , an abrupt and steep ascent that stretches for 9 kilometres along this climb the landscape changes from Sierra to Puna ( a dry and high area with little vegitation ).On the way to the first mountain pass the Abra Warmihuanusca ( dead womans pass 4200 metres ).We might see domesticated llama's and alpacas grazing on ichu, one of the few plants which grow at high altitude. We will cross an area of the so called cloud forest which is a habitat of humming birds and sparrows and the andean bear ( which I will be avoiding ).Immediately after the pass we descend to the Pacaymayo valley (3600  metres where we camp for the 2nd night .

Day 2 distance walked 6.84 miles walking time 6 to 7 hours maximum altitude 4200 metres

Day 3 from Pacaymayo we will climb to the 2nd pass the Abra Runkurakay (3970 metres ) where we will see an oval structure believed to have been a watch tower.Once over the pass we descend towards Ayacucho ( black lagoon ) and enter the cloud forest to finally arrive at Sayacmarca (3624 metres ).This is a complex made of a semi circular construction with enclosures at different levels with narrow streets ,fountains, patios and irregation canals.Continuing up an easy climb we arrive at the 3rd pass the Abra Phuyupatanarca ( 3700 metres town over the clouds  ).We will go through an inca tunnel to arrive at the pass and then walk down into Phuyupatanarca which is located on the highest point of a mountain. We continue our trek down the long descending steps that lead us to Winaywayna (2650 metres ) where our camp is located.

Day 3 distance walked 9.94 miles 8 hours walking maximum altitude 3900 metres

Day 4 starts at 4am and leaves Winaywayna to climb to the Intipunku or the sun gate along a trail of flat stones on the edge of cliffs in the highland jungle. From this point we should see the sun rise over the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu we will then descend into Machu Picchu entering through the house of the guardians where we will visit the temple of the moon and the Inca bridge .This will be the end of our trek where we will then hopefully get a rest on the train back to Cusco.

Day 4 ditance walked 2.49 miles walking time 2 hours maximum altitude 2700 metres.

Any help would be greatly appreciated to help me achieve my target for the charity.

To help raise the target I  started a bonus ball game and ran football scratch cards throughout the factory Gestamp UK and raised a steady amount of donations .

Thanks to all colleagues at Gestamp UK for joining in the game.

I also recieved direct donations from friends  and colleagues and would like to thank everyone involved for their help .

To assist in the fund raising Mick Lindsay a colleague from Gestamp Uk decided to help us and Sports Relief by dressing in a morning suit for his full shift  ( he picked a very  hot day to do it ! ) He also ran round the factory perimeter dressed in his suit .He raised £200.00 which he split between the two charities.A special thank you to him for this contribution (see his photo attached ) .

We then had  2 colleagues who decided to come into work dressed as women for the day ~ Kris Tumelty ,and Peter Handy  ~this was like the 'Nora Batty' fan club ,but  they raised £240 and gave everyone a good laugh.

We've also had 'home cooking' days, where colleagues from Gestamp uk baked cakes and cookie's and collected donations for them at work ~ thanks to everyone involved.
