Hello one and all.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. You are taking time out from your busy lives to brouse our page and we appreciate that.
If you are not already aware, me (Steve Moon) and my collegue Nick Gore have set ourselves the monumentous task of running the 84 miles of The Hadrian's Wall Pathway in three days. Some have said that this challenge is a tough one. We agree. Some have raised their eyebroughs and commented "blimey". We also agree. Many foolish words appear to have been spoken in pubs over the years after men have consumed too much beer. Our words spoken in the pub that night appear to have been some of them. However, once the words had been spoken there was no going back, the commitment was made and planning and training had to begin.
In the depths of the winter though, June seemed like a long way away and little serious training was done by me. However, Nick appeared intent on completing the task in two days rather than three and began to shame me by cycling or running to and from his home in Bridge to George Turle House or The Tizzard Centre at Kent University on a regular basis. (Well I do have six years on him)! In spite of cold weather though both of us have regularly been pounding both the streets and muddy tracks of South East Kent in an attempt to become Men of Titanium.
We are frequently running 14-16 miles together and both of us are doing another 2 or three smaller runs a week in order to get in some sembellance of 'shape'. It would appear that we are not too far away from being in some sort of shape as during a recent trainig run we over took a horse.
We are currently completing 20-22 mile runs every weekend and both running again several times a week. This is starting to look do-able!
The bunkhouses are booked as is the anual leave. The stocking up of provisions is ongoing. (Constantly needs replenishing due to not being able to resist the treats that we keep having to eat to get us round our training runs)!
It is also important for us to take the opportunity to thank our respective wives Barbara and Frances who have been very supportive in allowing us both to temporarily relinquish our fathering responsibilities and affording us the time we need to train for this event. Thank You Girls!
