As you can see from the photo, I completed the marathon and I was delighted to complete it in 3 hours 33 minutes and 5 seconds. It was a wonderful, if warm, day with the encouragement of the crowds really adding to the atmosphere.
A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored me - it was great to see that I had reached my fundraising target before I even got to the start line.........leaving me to concentrate on getting to the finish line!

Why did I run the 2009 London Marathon?
I wanted to raise money for a very special cause, the Handicapped Children's Pilgrimage Trust (HCPT). Every year, the HCPT takes thousands of children with disabilities or special needs on a holiday to Lourdes in France; this costs over £700 per child. For more information please see the HCPT website.
Why is the HCPT important to me?
While at university, Gina and I volunteered to help look after children on the HCPT annual pilgrimage to Lourdes. This was how we met and so HCPT has had a special place in our hearts ever since.
Why was running the marathon in 2009 so important to me?
In 2009 Gina and I celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Raising £2009 for HCPT in 2009 is the best way I can say thank you to the charity for bringing us together, and to Gina for 25 wonderful years.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy, totally secure and, if you prefer, you can donate anonymously. Justgiving is also the most efficient way to sponsor me. If you are a UK taxpayer, HCPT will receive an extra 25% in Gift Aid; Justgiving will also ensure an additional 3% supplement is added to your donation.
