Cambrai Triathlon · 10 October 2007

The RBL are the UK's leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the British Armed Forces and their dependents.

Story

The 1st Royal Tank Regiment (1RTR) are going to Cambrai to celebrate Cambrai day this year so i had a great thought of doing a Triathlon for Sponsorship. The triathlon will start on Monday 19th November '07 and will finish around midday on Wednesday 21st November '07.

D Sqn, Jt CBRN Regt are going to have a team of 4 (maybe 3) guys doing this event as a relay team. These are myself, SSgt Davi Donaldson, SSgt Rab Murray and Cpl Daz Morrissey.

So we're going to start in Honington and finish in Cambrai without any stops just like a normal Triathlon, except making it slightly longer. The break down of the event is as follows:

SWIM -  Instead of swimming the channel (i couldn't get clearance in time) we are going to simulate the swim in the station swimming pool here in Honington. So it's a 0600Hrs start on Monday and then 21.5 mile (1376 lengths) before we even leave base!

BIKE - Then it's time for 2 wheels. Riding from Honington down to Dover over 170 miles. When we get to the port it doesn't finish their as we'll then be on a static bike and turbo and trying to raise more money both at the port and on the ferry. I'm sure you'll agree some distance considering the other 3 guys don't ride a bike on a regular basis!

RUN - When we get off the ferry in Calais we can then say goodbye to the wheels and hello to the tarmac. Time to start running. Only 151Km (95 mile) left to go till we reach Cambrai.

We are diong this for 3 charities (just giving will only let me advertise it as one charity) and these are:

The Royal British Legion

The Royal Tank Regiment Benevolent Fund

East Anglia Childrens Hospice

I'm sure you'll agree that these are 3 worthwhile charities that would appreciate your support.

So far have raised a total of £600 offline. £150 from the following places: Cpls Mess, Sgts and WOs Mess, Officers Mess - Jt CBRN Regt and Sgts and WOs Mess RAF Honington.

Many Thanks in advance

Davi, Rab, Podge and Daz.
