In the year of my big Five-Ohhh! I have decided to take some time off to climb the 19,331 ft mountain Kilimanjaro early in 2010 to help raise money for charity. The charity was established to enhance the quality of life of those who are suffering from advanced cancer or Motor Neurone Disease for whom cure is no longer possible, as well as support for families facing the loss of a loved one.
The training has started with reducing the food intake drastically and going to the gym which in itself is a challenge. So far lost two and half stone in the past few weeks, so Im well placed to reach my other target on the fatometer as well as helping to get up the hill! Little did I realise I have to buy a new wardrobe as a result! The climb up Ben Lomond in September was great, many of the Kili team came along in driving rain and wind and I got duly soaked right through. That my first Munro bagged, another 280 odd to go now Im told. Yikes! The uphill part was good, the dpownhill part was worse on the legs..... maybe I can slide down Kili?!! This wont prepare me for the altitude sickness on Kilimanjaro though, thats potentaially the show stopper! Ill be grateful for any donations if I bump into you, Im sure you wont mind and will give generously, even if its only to pay me to suffer pain! Ive been overwhelmed by the fantastic response so far, the generosity of people far and wide has been amazing so lets hope it continues.
