Story

THANK YOU for visiting my Fundraising Page dedicated to the JUNE HANCOCK MESOTHELIOMA RESEARCH FUND (JHMRF).

While this page was initially set up to collect personal sponsorship for the Reading Half Marathon, the fundraising effort continues throughout the year, as JHMRF is Reading Roadrunners' nominated charity for all of 2009.

By September the Club as a whole had raised well over £20K. In doing so, the Club crossed the landmark sum of £400K, this being the total raised for various charities over a period of 20 years! A proud achievement indeed!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. So please sponsor me now!

Besides Justgiving I have collected sponsorship in person by approaching friends and former work colleagues at BBC Monitoring, as well as Reading Roadrunners sports club and the Berkshire Hash House Harriers. Thanks to them all.

Remember: The race is long over (Ros and I cracked the Reading Half in 2.45, not bad since I had not long been out of hospital), but the campaign continues till the end of the year!

Thank you!

Steve Lee, Reading Roadrunners' charity coordinator for 2009 - and a mesothelioma sufferer who uses running to keep the disease at bay!

About the charity

The Fund was created in 1997 to raise awareness of mesothelioma, fund research, and to support patients and carers. We have raised more than £1 million, mostly in small donations from those personally affected, for research, a helpline and educational/information events across the country.
