Story
On April 5th 2009 I jumped out of a plane in the name of charity. Wearing a t-shirt & writing on my hand is one thing, but I'm took it a few steps further. Literally.
I am raising money not only for the Harris Bursary Fund, but also for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation. Now I know we're all feeling the pinch with the 'credit crunch' but some people don't have the fortune of having much all year round.
Harris Bursaries give UCLan students who come from working-class homes, items to help them out, simple things like food vouchers, book tokens & computer equipment - as a student, all necessities! [http://www.uclan.ac.uk/information/uclan/fundraising/harris_bursary_fund.php]
The Rosemere Cancer Foundation provides additional facilities to the Cancer Centre & local Cancer units around Lancashire & South Cumbria & all money raised for them will be going to provide even more essential equipment, including the luxuries not afforded in hospitals such as aromatherapy and a comforting place to sit & chat. My uncle recently died of throat cancer & my Grandad frequently suffers from skin cancers, but local foundations like Rosemere can help those before it gets that bad or at least ease the pain in a more relaxing way. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's just like a normal sponsorship form but just more efficient! University of Central Lancashire Foundation gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. Or if you see me a lot, you can fill in one of my forms & I can collect the money on another date. I've now got until 1st May 2009 to get all of my sponsorship money in and would be so grateful for your help.
I've always wanted to do a parachute jump. Unfortunately I'm afraid of edges. Knee-wobbling, leg-shaking, stomach-curdling fear in fact, photos of rock-climbing show that fear. And, whilst in the minibus on the way to the parachute centre, I remembered I'm not a fan of flying either!! I chose to do a tandem jump so that I have the added fear of a freefall. But I knew the money I raised would make a huge difference & I guess for that reason, I calmed the nerves just a little bit (I did a very loud scream on the way out of the plane). Although it's already done & dusted, it doesn't change the fact that the sponsorship money will help considerably. Even the slightest amount will considerably help.
It was the most crazy, surreal experience I have ever had in my life. I'm even considering doing a course in skydiving. But some people either don't have the funds, or don't have the health to do anything like this. It really means a lot that I've had this opportunity and I really value all of your support.
Thank you!!
